A Little About Me

Hi, my name is Jessa. I was born and raised in the Philippines. I have three brothers and one sister. I am the middle child. I am married to David, who's from Texas.
I moved here from my homeland in 2007. Davao is the city I grew up in, it is located in southern part of the country. We have 1,107 islands and too many dialects that I have only a couple that I learned.

I speak Cebuano. A Cebuano dialect came from people who were from Cebu City. I can speak Tagalog, our common language, which I learned from school. English was not my favorite subject in high school. I used to not like it, even though it's our official language . English is everywhere   -books, magazines, newspapers, billboards, posters etc are written in English. School teachers are required to speak in English- however some are struggling.  Students are to practice speaking in English daily for an hour, which for some are hard to learn.

I finished an education degree and taught elementary for four years in the Philippines. I was able to teach here in Texas for five years and decided to stopped, so I can focus on learning about America- English, lifestyle, culture and Texas school system.

But, now that I am here I need to continue learning so I can be a better communicator to the people here. I can't live my life in fear, because we really don't know where our life will lead us. Life is unpredictable! So, continue to learn.
